McLaughlin reflected on how life and career pressures can sometimes cause people to drift spiritually.
"I feel like sometimes you live your life and you, kind of like, get into the world a little bit, you kind of stop praying sometimes. … but then you have those moments, like wait, I need to pray and talk to God," he said.
The fifth and final season of "Stranger Things" was released in November and December of 2025, marking the end of one of Netflix's most successful series. The show became a global phenomenon, and, according to Variety, the streaming platform reports that the series has garnered 1.2 billion total views.
McLaughlin began his acting career on Broadway at just 12 years old, playing young Simba in "The Lion King" on Broadway, performing eight shows a week.
Now, as he reflects on fame and personal growth, McLaughlin says prayer helps him resist the pulls of external validation.
"Sometimes you get so caught up in relying on worldly desires," McLaughlin said. "When you're able to sit down and ground yourself in prayer and knowing that God is listening, that's the foundation. That's what you can rely on any time of the day, any time of the year."
