| Dear Diogenes: Have you heard this claim? "Thirty-two people died in ICE custody last year; ICE detained 170 U.S. citizens. And, uh, an ICE agent shot Renee Good in the head and killed her. How does that show ICE did everything right?" Given rhetoric like this, it's easy to see why polls show Americans disapprove of how ICE enforces immigration laws. In my new piece for Friday's New York Post, I lay out how the news media push false and misleading claims about ICE. I believe this may be one of my most important articles. The same day the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in Wolford v. Lopez from Hawaii, the Wall Street Journal published my latest op-ed. I argue that if states cannot provide real protection with nothing more than a "Gun Free Zone" sign, they must allow people to protect themselves. The piece summarizes important new research we conducted on civilians and police stopping active shooting attacks, as well as the amicus brief I submitted to the Supreme Court, which I co-authored with the Peace Officers Research Association of California and the California Association of Highway Patrolmen. In other work, we compared violent and property crime rates in Australia and the United States. Although commentators often emphasize Australia's lower murder rate, Australia suffers from much higher violent and property crime rates overall. When governments deny people the ability to protect themselves, it should not be surprising to see higher rates of rape and sexual assault, robbery, and assault. Kesten Green—a CPRC senior fellow and professor at the University of Adelaide—and I discussed these findings in an op-ed for The Australian Spectator. We have also updated our analysis of political bias in AI chatbots on crime and gun control. While the chatbots remain extremely liberal overall, they have shifted slightly more conservative on crime since our last evaluation in August 2024. Their views on gun control, however, did not change at all—they remain extremely liberal. Only Pi consistently shows a genuinely moderate stance. My earlier New York Post op-ed documenting the very high crime rate among illegal aliens in New York State compared to everyone else continues to draw attention. It has led to appearances on numerous radio programs, including Sunday Night with Bill Cunningham, Stacy on the Right, the Carl Jackson Show, the David Webb Show, the Bill Martinez Show, Oregon's KMED, Minnesota's KNSI, and Iowa's KXEL. Our list of defensive gun uses by people legally carrying guns in public that got media attention illustrates 26 cases from April. If you haven't already seen it, please watch our new video with John Stossel, which covers our new research showing errors in the FBI's active shooting reports. For those who haven't already done so, if you would like to help us get the information out to others, please consider posting reviews of our website on the Google business page that we have set up. The more positive reviews people post, the more Google will feature our webpage in their searches. Thank you very much! We need help getting our research out. It doesn't do us any good to do all this work if people don't see it. If you have friends you think might find our emails interesting, please encourage them to sign up by sending them the link here. Thank you very much. Again, we need your support to continue doing the work that we do. I don't think that there is any organization with as small of a budget that regularly produces as much as we do. Thank you very much! . Research . Op-eds . Recent Talks .
