Secret Service suspended 6 personnel without pay or benefits after Trump assassination attempt . . . Secret Service suspended six personnel without pay as the agency faced intense scrutiny after the assassination attempt against President Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, nearly a year ago. Matt Quinn, Secret Service deputy director, told CBS News that their penalty ranged from 10 to 42 days of leave without pay or benefits. The personnel were placed into restricted duty or roles with less operational responsibility upon their return. CBS News

Former CIA Director John Brennan claimed Wednesday on MSNBC's "Deadline" that President Donald Trump was incorrect to say Russia did not interfere in the 2016 election. Brennan said: "Russia interfered. They tried to help Donald Trump. They tried to hurt Hillary Clinton. Comey Tracked by Secret Service After Post Critical of Trump . . . The Secret Service had the former F.B.I. director James B. Comey followed by law enforcement authorities in unmarked cars and street clothes and tracked the location of his cellphone the day after he posted an image on social media in May that President Trump's allies said amounted to a threat to assassinate the president, according to three government officials. Mr. Comey and his wife, Patrice, were tailed by the authorities as they drove from the North Carolina coast, where they had been vacationing, through Virginia to their home in the Washington area. Bondi Backlash Ensues Over Epstein Evidence . . . Conservative pundits have been highly critical of the Trump administration and Attorney General Pam Bondi regarding their conclusions about the Jeffrey Epstein sex trafficking case and Epstein's ultimate suicide. After years of speculation that the government was withholding information about the disgraced financier, his "client list" of powerful people across the world to whom he trafficked underage girls, and his suicide, the administration has concluded that there was no government cover-up and that there is little to no new information to report. Joe Biden's White House Physician Pleads the Fifth Multiple Times . . . Former White House physician Kevin O'Connor pleaded the Fifth Amendment multiple times during his closed-door interview with the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday. Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., subpoenaed O'Connor to testify regarding his alleged involvement in covering up former President Joe Biden's mental acuity - or lack of it - while in office. The expected hourlong deposition concluded quickly after O'Connor refused to provide any answers. Daily Signal

Mamdani Surges To 10-Point Lead In NYC Mayoral Race, Adams Craters To Fourth Place: Poll . . . A new poll shows Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani holding a commanding 10-point lead in New York City's mayoral race this week, with incumbent Mayor Eric Adams trailing in fourth place. The Slingshot Strategies poll, conducted between July 2-6, showed socialist Mamdani capturing 35% of registered voters, with former Governor Andrew Cuomo at 25%, Republican Curtis Sliwa at 14%, and incumbent Mayor Eric Adams trailing with just 11%. Jasmine Crockett is the preferred candidate among Texas Democratic voters to run for Senate in 2026, according to recent polling. Crockett leads a hypothetical primary field with 35% of likely Democratic voters, followed by former Democratic Texas Rep. Colin Allred at 20%, former Presidential candidate Beto O'Rourke and Rep. Federal workers brace for the end after Supreme Court ruling . . . Tens of thousands of workers across the federal government are hoping their unions and allies in local governments and nonprofit groups have a Plan B — a day after the Supreme Court said the Trump administration could proceed with firing them. The hope hangs on the ruling's suggestion that lower courts could still consider direct challenges to agencies' reorganization plans. But that will require plaintiffs to bring more detailed cases quickly and convince judges to stop the layoffs before they become a fait accompli. Politico
Court throws out Biden-era conviction of Hillary Clinton 'troll' . . , A federal appeals court Wednesday overturned the conviction of a conservative social media influencer accused of trying to trick his followers into believing they could vote online for Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential election. The Second Circuit Court of Appeals voted unanimously to toss out Douglass Mackey's March 2023 conviction, citing a lack of evidence, and remanded it to a lower court with instructions for acquittal, which means Mr. Mackey cannot be tried again in the case. GOP senators fear Musk-Trump beef spells trouble for midterm election . . . Senate Republicans fear Elon Musk's beef with President Trump could become a wild-card factor that could cost them seats in 2026 if Musk follows through on his threat to create a new political party to compete with the GOP. GOP lawmakers note that third-party candidates have swung presidential and Senate races in the past and worry that Musk's bid to establish an "America Party" is likely to peel off more Republicans than Democratic voters in key races. Dan Osborn, the independent Nebraska Senate candidate who presents himself as a centrist, has two longtime Democratic Party operatives serving as treasurers for both his campaign and a "conservative" political committee that the campaign has launched to reach voters in the deep-red state. Osborn, whose campaign website bills him as a "lifelong Independent," launched his campaign Tuesday to unseat Republican Sen. Pete Ricketts, just months after losing to Republican Sen. Deb Fischer. Trump taps Transportation secretary to serve as interim NASA chief . . . President Donald Trump announced Wednesday evening that Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy will also serve temporarily as the head of NASA. "Sean is doing a TREMENDOUS job in handling our Country's Transportation Affairs, including creating a state-of-the-art Air Traffic Control systems, while at the same time rebuilding our roads and bridges, making them efficient, and beautiful, again," Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social. Philadelphia's public libraries have hosted, and plan to continue hosting, anti-Israel "storytime" events that teach children that Israel "senselessly murdered" thousands of kids in Gaza, depict a map in which Israel is entirely replaced with "Palestine," and create art projects promoting the "Palestinian liberation" movement. The Free Library of Philadelphia, which receives both state and federal funding, has scheduled at least six "Palestine Storytime & Crafts" events this summer sponsored by an extremist anti-Israel group called Families for Ceasefire Philly. President Donald Trump praised the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for its decision to allow churches to endorse political candidates, stating that he loves "that churches can now" make political endorsements. When asked by a reporter on Wednesday what his "reaction" was to the IRS's decision, Trump explained that his administration has "a lot of respect for the people that lead the church." Trump added that "if somebody of faith wants" to make a political endorsement, it is something he would "like to hear." Breitbart
Faith-Based Organizations Mobilize After Deadly Texas Floods . . . Devastating floods over the Independence Day weekend caused widespread damage throughout the Texas Hill Country, prompting an extensive volunteer relief response from several faith-based and community organizations. At least 111 people died in the floods, including more than two dozen campers and counselors from Camp Mystic in Kerr County. A woman who police said went to President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach and told U.S. Secret Service agents that she had "an urgent message" for the president has been arrested on vehicle-related charges. Caroline Shaw, 49, of Orlando was taken into custody July 7 on charges of driving with a suspended license and failure to register a vehicle, according to court records. Palm Beach Daily News
John Kerry says 'Trump was right', Democrats allowed migrant 'siege' of border . . . Former US Secretary of State John Kerry has told the BBC his fellow Democrats allowed the US-Mexico border to be "under siege" during Joe Biden's presidency. In sometimes sharp words, Kerry - who was the Democratic presidential nominee in 2004 and a US senator from Massachusetts - said he told Biden the party had "missed" on the issue of immigration for years. He said this had allowed Republicans like Donald Trump to gain political advantage. BBC
