The Blackburn Report: Democrats’ Obstruction Hurts the American People

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqtA5r3Rwts

President Trump and Republicans received a mandate from the American people to secure our border, strengthen our economy, rein in wasteful spending, and Make America Great Again. By passing the One Big Beautiful Bill, we delivered on this mandate and secured huge wins for the American people, but our work is far from finished. At the top of the list: confirming President Trump’s nominees. This week, I spoke on the Senate floor about how my Democrat colleagues are obstructing President Trump and the will of the American people by slowing down the voting process on these qualified nominees. Democrats are losing at the ballot box, in the halls of Congress, and in the courts—so stalling is all they have left to spite the President. They might think that they are hurting Republicans, but in reality, they are hurting the American people who deserve to have elected representatives that stand up for their interests. That’s what Republicans are working to do every single day, and nothing—including obstruction from the other side of the aisle—is going to stop us. Read more here

Weekly Rundown

Image Several staff members at Belmont University, the University of Tennessee, and Vanderbilt were caught on camera admitting to concealing their Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs to skirt orders from the Trump administration to end these divisive, woke programs. Following the release of this footage, I sent letters to all three universities demanding accountability and compliance with President Trump’s executive actions. During a Senate Judiciary subcommittee hearing, I discussed this very issue with Harmeet Dhillon, the Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights at the Department of Justice. Read more here.
This week, I hosted a tele-town hall with Tennesseans from Bledsoe, Cannon, Coffee, Dekalb, Marion, Maury, Robertson, Sequatchie, Sumner, Trousdale, Van Buren, and White counties. We discussed the One Big Beautiful Bill and the victories it secured for the American people, the rescissions package that will save taxpayers $9 billion, and legislation I’ve introduced to codify President Trump’s America First agenda. It’s always great to speak with fellow Tennesseans about the issues that matter most to them.   Image
Image On the latest episode of ‘Unmuted with Marsha,’ I spoke with Dr. Art Laffer about the roaring economy under President Trump. Dr. Laffer and I broke down how the One Big Beautiful Bill is a huge win for working-class Americans and will continue to fuel President Trump’s economic boom. An outdated IRS policy is leaving Tennesseans vulnerable to having their tax refund checks stolen in the mail. When those refunds don’t arrive on time, it puts real strain on hardworking families. I introduced the bipartisan Recovery of Stolen Checks Act, which would allow American taxpayers who have their paper checks lost or stolen in the mail to receive their payment by electronic deposit from the Treasury Department rather than another check a criminal could intercept. Image Time and again, teachers’ unions have shown they’ll put their left-wing political agenda ahead of students’ needs. That is why I introduced the National Education Association Charter Repeal Act to revoke the congressional charter of the nation’s largest teachers’ union and the only labor union with a federal charter. The NEA has made it crystal clear it’s a partisan organization, and it shouldn’t be rewarded with a federal charter that platforms woke gender ideology, antisemitism, and left-wing propaganda. Our students deserve better. Read more here

  • Last week Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti and I sent a letter to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) sounding the alarm on shady online marketing practices of GLP-1 receptor agonists. These drugs are increasingly being advertised as alternatives to FDA-approved weight loss medications like Ozempic in ways that mislead consumers and undermine public health. Read more here.
  • When lawless states like California obstruct the federal government’s work to enforce immigration law and chaos ensues, American taxpayers in states like Tennessee are forced to foot the bill for the federal reinforcements required to restore law and order. Last week, I introduced the State Accountability for Federal Deployment Costs Act, which would require states to reimburse the federal government to cover these costs. Read more here.
  • When I talk to Tennesseans, one of the biggest concerns they have for our nation’s future is our national debt. After four years of reckless, far-left spending under the Biden administration, it now sits at $37 trillion—$108,000 for every American citizen. Tennesseans and the American people know that this path is unsustainable. Read more about this in my weekly column.
