Trump announces 35% tariff on Canada after imposing higher duties on other countries . . . "Starting August 1, 2025, we will charge Canada a Tariff of 35% on Canadian products sent into the United States, separate from all Sectoral Tariffs," Trump wrote in a letter to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney posted to social media. The president's tariffs on Canada will be some of the most impactful for U.S. consumers, as border states share energy and other things with the country. He said that if Canada offers reciprocal tariffs, he will increase the tariffs to whatever their number is on top of the 35%. Washington Examiner
Trump Using Tariffs as Tool of American Power . . . President Trump's threat for a 50% tariff on Brazilian imports expanded his use of punitive duties over matters that have nothing to do with trade, breaking with more than a half-century of global economic precedent. Trump cited the trial of the president's close political ally, former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, as the rationale for new tariffs set to take effect Aug. 1 on imports from the largest economy in Latin America. New poll delivers troubling signs for Democrats . . . The Democratic Party's credibility with voters has plummeted even further since the 2024 election, raising alarm bells as the party looks to rebuild ahead of the midterms and the next presidential election, according to a new poll obtained by The Hill. The poll, which was conducted between May and June by Unite the Country, a Democratic super PAC, showed voters perceived the Democratic Party as "out of touch," "woke" and "weak." The Hill
State Department Employees to Face Reduction in Force in Coming Weeks . . . The State Department will soon notify employees affected by its long-awaited reduction in force, kick-starting the final stage of its reorganization. "Secretary Rubio, at the direction of President Trump, has undertaken a historic reorganization of the State Department, which was thoughtfully and deliberately executed by department leadership," a senior State Department official told The Daily Signal. Paxton's wife sues for divorce, alleges adultery . . . The wife of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed for divorce in Collin County, Texas, on Thursday. Angela Paxton, a popular Texas state senator, alleges adultery as a fault ground in the divorce petition. In a statement on social media, she also cited "recent discoveries." The Paxtons have been married for thirty-eight years but have been living apart since June 2024. In the petition, Sen. Paxton cited "adultery" as a fault ground. On social media, she added, "But, in light of recent discoveries, I do not believe that it honors God or is loving to myself, my children, or Ken to remain in the marriage." Breitbart

FTC to Investigate Trans Industry's Child Suicide Scare Tactics . . . The federal government's foremost consumer protection agency has an "unequivocal basis" to start investigating the transgender medicine industry after a workshop highlighting stakeholders' horror stories, Mark Meador of the Federal Trade Commission told The Daily Signal. A key part of the context of the possible deception and fraud is that doctors told parents of children experiencing gender dysphoria that they can choose between having "a dead son or a living daughter," or vice versa. James Gunn's 'Superman' faces conservative criticism over Trump-era reboot . . . The new "Superman" movie is facing a steady wave of criticism from the right after the film's director called out a political message he hopes viewers will take away from his reboot of the legendary DC Comics character. Star filmmaker James Gunn, who led the "Guardians of the Galaxy" franchise and is now trying to recharge the DC brand, angered some conservatives with comments made to British newspaper The Times calling Superman "an immigrant that came from other places and populated the country." Chaos erupts as feds raid pot farm allegedly employing illegal workers as mayor slams operation . . . Protesters clashed with federal authorities Thursday during an immigration operation north of Los Angeles at a marijuana farm allegedly employing illegal immigrants. Multiple agents arrived at the Glass House Farms, a state-licensed cannabis facility which is considered illegal under federal law, in Camarillo. Federal authorities had a warrant for illegal employees, Fox News has learned. Another raid also occurred at another Glass House Farm in Carpinteria. Fox News
Pentagon Ditches Admiral Who Allowed Drag Queen Performances On Aircraft Carrier . . . The Defense Department is withdrawing the nomination of Rear Adm. Michael "Buzz" Donnelly, under whose command drag performances took place on board the USS Ronald Reagan. Donnelly served as commanding officer of the aircraft carrier from April 2016 to September 2018, during which time Yeoman 2nd Class Joshua Kelley performed as a drag queen under the name "Harpy Daniels" at a department-sanctioned "Morale, Welfare, and Recreation" event on the aircraft carrier. Investigation into June crash so far hasn't pointed to problem with the Boeing 787 Dreamliner . . . The investigation into last month's Air India crash is focusing on the actions of the jet's pilots and doesn't so far point to a problem with the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, according to people familiar with U.S. officials' early assessments. Preliminary findings indicate that switches controlling fuel flow to the jet's two engines were turned off, leading to an apparent loss of thrust shortly after takeoff, the people said. Pilots use the switches to start the jet's engines, shut them down, or reset them in certain emergencies. Wall Street Journal

New 'anti-DEI' index fund launches to only invest in companies that hire based on merit . . . A so-called "anti-DEI" index fund launched on Tuesday, giving investors an opportunity to invest solely in companies that engage in hiring based on merit, not demographic factors, according to its founder. "It is the first ever index fund that is committed solely to meritocracy . . . we do not invest in companies that impose DEI hiring targets, Nike, Starbucks, Intel, Airbnb. There's 37 in total and the reason why we don't invest with them is that these are both a moral and a financial failure," said Azoria CEO and founder James Fishback. Fox Business
White House escalates war on Powell with inquiry into $700M overrun on Fed HQ . . . Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought ratcheted up pressure on Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell on Thursday, accusing him of having "grossly mismanaged" the central bank. Vought sent a letter to Powell probing him with questions over the renovation of the Fed's headquarters in Washington, D.C. The letter said that President Donald Trump is "extremely troubled" by his management of the Fed and called the overhaul of the headquarters "ostentatious." Washington Examiner

Barack and Michelle team up with Seinfeld creator for new TV show . . . Former President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle are teaming up with Seinfeld creator Larry David for a new HBO TV show. The unlikely team will be collaborating on a still-untitled sketch comedy for the network, which will explore American history. Largest US teachers union mocked for misspelling 'fascism' in anti-Trump agenda item . . . The National Education Association (NEA), which represents more than 3 million teachers nationwide, approved the mangled proposal – aimed at defending "the survival of civilization itself" – on Sunday at the group's annual convention. "NEA pledges to defend democracy against Trump's embrace of fascism by using the term facism in NEA materials to correctly characterize Donald Trump's program and actions," read the adopted agenda item.
