Donald Trump declared 'bring in the troops' and called for the arrest of anyone wearing face masks as violent clashes between law enforcement and protesters have rocked Los Angeles following a crackdown on illegal migrants across the US. Rioters have set fire to driverless cars, looted stores, driven motorcycles at lines of cops and created blockades to grind Downtown LA to a complete halt as chaos in the city stretches into its third day. In one vicious attack, officers were trapped under an overpass on the 101 Freeway as they were hammered with fiery missiles and rocks from above while trying to extinguish flames engulfing several now-destroyed highway patrol cars. During a gaggle before boarding Air Force One, Trump would not rule out invoking the Insurrection Act, which could allow the military to be deployed domestically, but he suggested the protests against immigration raids were not yet an insurrection. Overall, 54% of voters approve of the program while 46% disapprove. Colombia presidential hopeful shot in head at rally . . . A Colombian presidential candidate remains in intensive care after he was shot three times - twice in the head - at a campaign event in the capital, Bogotá. Miguel Uribe Turbay, a 39-year-old senator, was attacked while addressing supporters in a park on Saturday. Police arrested a 15-year-old suspect at the scene, the attorney general's office said. BBC
Iran expands dog-walking ban . . . Iranian officials have expanded a ban on dog walking to a swathe of cities across the country, citing public order and health and safety concerns. Dog ownership has been frowned upon in Iran since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, with dogs viewed as "unclean" by authorities and a legacy of Western cultural influence. But despite efforts to discourage it, dog ownership is rising, particularly among young people, and it is viewed as a form of rebellion against the restrictive Iranian regime. BBC
I would argue a government that doesn't like dogs is more likely to use nuclear weapons than one that does. Just saying.

US and China set for trade talks in London . . . Three of U.S. President Donald Trump's top aides will meet with their Chinese counterparts in London on Monday for talks aimed at resolving a trade dispute between the world's two largest economies that has kept global markets on edge. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer will represent the United States in the talks, Trump announced in a post on his Truth Social platform without providing further details. Trump travel ban takes effect . . . President Donald Trump's sweeping new travel ban which bars citizens of 12 countries from entering the United States came into effect at midnight Monday. The order, which Trump signed last week, restricts the nationals of Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Congo-Brazzaville, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen from entering the US. Nationals from a further seven countries - Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela - will face partial travel restrictions. BBC

ABC News Senior National Correspondent Terry Moran has been suspended as he faced intense backlash for lashing out at White House aide Stephen Miller and President Donald Trump in a late-night social media diatribe. In a now-deleted post on X, Moran described Miller as a "world-class hater" who "eats his hate" for "spiritual nourishment." Buckley's Life on the Firing Line . . . This new biography by Sam Tanenhaus juxtaposes events in Buckley's life against the evolution of the conservative movement from 1950 to the early years of the new century. The book is at once a chronicle of the life of a man but also a history of the era he helped to shape. Buckley: The Life and Revolution that Changed America has been 30 years in the making and now appears on the 100th anniversary of Buckley's birth.
