SCOTUS Medicaid ruling lays roadmap for states nationwide to defund Planned Parenthood . . . The Supreme Court's decision Thursday to permit South Carolina to bar Medicaid from issuing reimbursements to Planned Parenthood clinics has laid the groundwork for other states to follow suit ahead of a planned vote in Congress on stripping the abortion giant of federal funds altogether. The organization is a leading provider of abortion services in the United States. Its 2023 annual report suggests that it performed nearly 400,000 of the approximately 1 million U.S. abortions that year. Just the News

Democrats emerge from all-senators briefing still skeptical US strikes 'obliterated' Iran nuke sites . . . Senate Democrats emerged from a briefing Thursday from top Trump administration military and intelligence officials unconvinced this past weekend's U.S. airstrike on three Iranian nuclear sites had "obliterated" them. "It still appears that we have only set back the Iranian nuclear program by a handful of months," Connecticut Democrat Sen. Chris Murphy said afterward. "There's no doubt there was damage done to the program, but the allegations that we have obliterated their program just don't seem to stand up to reason." Just the News
Trump threatens to sue CNN, New York Times over Iran intelligence report leak . . . President Donald Trump on Wednesday sent letters to CNN and the New York Times, threatening to sue them for publishing articles about a leaked intelligence report that appeared to contradict the message he wanted to put out about the United States' bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities. Trump's personal attorney sent the letters to the outlets, accusing the outlets of damaging Trump's reputation and demanded an apology and retraction for the "false," "defamatory" and "unpatriotic" coverage. Van Hollen: Authoritarian Trump's Attacks on the Press Are 'Very Dangerous' . . . Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) said Thursday on MSNBC's "The Weeknight" that President Donald Trump was using "dangerous" authoritarian tactics by attacking the press. Van Hollen said, "The President of United States, the Secretary of Defense, has essentially declared that anybody who has a different explanation or different narrative is somehow a traitor to our country, which is just a way of saying to all the folks in our professional Intelligence Community that if you tell the truth, you're going to be punished. Support for former Vice President Kamala Harris in the theoretical 2028 presidential horserace has dropped in new polling as she weighs her next political steps. A new Emerson College Polling survey found Harris in second place among a field of potential 2028 Democrats, with 13 percent of Democratic primary voters. Sarah Sanders Joins Conservative Critics of AI Provision in GOP Budget Bill . . . Arkansas Gov. Sarah Sanders is coming out swinging against a provision of the congressional budget reconciliation bill that would prohibit state regulation of certain artificial intelligence technologies for 10 years. "This technology is changing every single day, and we simply cannot wait 10 years to ban abusive content like AI child pornography," Sanders told The Daily Signal. Li-Meng Yan, a Chinese-educated doctor born in Qingdao, China, says that Chinese scientists are obligated by the government through a "contract" to help steal U.S. intellectual property, research, and anything else of value for use by the Chinese Communist Party. Iranian authorities have carried out a wave of arrests and multiple executions of people suspected of links to Israeli intelligence agencies, in the wake of the recent war between the two countries. It comes after what officials describe as an unprecedented infiltration of Iranian security services by Israeli agents. Texas I-45 freeway shut down as armed woman in folding chair sparks police standoff . . . A woman armed with a handgun was locked in a hours-long tense standoff with police on a busy Texas freeway, causing traffic chaos for thousands of commuters. Multiple law enforcement agencies rushed to Interstate 45 in an effort to negotiate with the woman, who pulled a folding chair out of her car and sat in the middle of the road from about 1.30pm.
