Today's Top News   United States Americans elected President Donald Trump in the hope that he would fight inflation and boost the US economy, but as he approaches his 100th day in office they are giving the Republican poor marks for his handling of both, a new Reuters/Ipsos poll shows. Trump backed off from threats to fire Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell after days of intensifying criticisms of the central bank chief for not cutting interest rates. Billionaire Elon Musk's drive to slash federal programs and the size of the federal workforce came under attack at a town hall meeting held by Representative Byron Donalds, as Republicans in the US Congress find themselves increasingly having to defend Trump's agenda. In other news Twenty-six men were killed and 17 were injured when suspected militants opened fire at tourists in India's Jammu and Kashmir territory, the worst such attack in the country in nearly two decades. An Israeli airstrike on a school sheltering displaced families in northern Gaza killed at least 10 people, while another hit a children's hospital, local health authorities said. The foreign ministers of Germany, France and Britain jointly called on Israel to adhere to international law by allowing the unhindered passage of humanitarian aid into Gaza. The Vaccines for Children program is funded by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and administered by state public health officials. With an annual budget of roughly $5 billion, the vaccines program is responsible for about half the jabs administered to US children every year. Ongoing cuts in federal health funding and personnel could jeopardize the effectiveness of this longstanding program that's become a key cog in America's disease-fighting machinery, according to disease experts and former CDC officials.
