REUTERS/Emilija Jefremova Russia and Ukraine Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy is set to meet President Donald Trump and seal a deal for US participation in Ukraine's mineral industry as Trump opens talks with Moscow. Trump said the minerals deal is the security guarantee Kyiv needs, brushing aside a plea from British Prime Minister Keir Starmer for a commitment of US military support. Moscow has said it expects US companies to return to Russia imminently, but seizures of foreign and domestic businesses offer a warning to Western firms. In other news A California federal judge temporarily blocked the Trump administration from ordering the Department of Defense and other federal agencies to carry out the mass firings of thousands of recently hired employees. Jailed Kurdish militant leader Abdullah Ocalan's call for his PKK party to disarm opens the door to possible peace with Ankara after four decades of war. British Airways owner IAG reported a 27% jump in annual operating profit, beating market expectations as it curbed costs and growth in its lucrative transatlantic routes took off. Warner Bros Discovery said it expects streaming profits to double this year and forecast at least 150 million subscribers for the business by 2026, setting a bold target as it benefits from the global rollout of Max.
