REUTERS/File Photo As the Gaza war nears its first anniversary, previously unreported communications show the Biden administration's struggle to balance internal concerns over rising deaths in Gaza with its public support for Israel following the Hamas attack on Oct. 7. Reuters reviewed three sets of email exchanges between senior US officials, dated Oct. 11 to 14. "The emails reflected a scramble inside the Biden administration," Deputy Foreign Policy Editor Humeyra Pamuk said on today's Reuters World News podcast. "There were three main themes. The first one was on US messaging. The second one was on humanitarian response and Israel's risk of violating international humanitarian law. And the third one was about Israel asking the United States to expedite certain weapons sales."
