Trump opens up lead in the betting odds after being locked in dead heat with Harris . . . Donald Trump has opened up a lead over Kamala Harris in the betting markets after the vice president had been gaining momentum on her Republican rival. Trump now has a 49.7% chance of winning, leading Harris by 0.9 percentage points, according to Real Clear Polling, which aggregates half a dozen gambling sources on the election. It is Trump's first lead in the betting odds since August 22 - and comes despite polling that largely backs Harris to take the White House. Daily Mail

Harris' surge riding on oversampling of Democrats, pollsters warn . . . Vice President Kamala Harris' growing lead in the polls may be exaggerated by oversampling Democratic voters, and some critics say it's an intentional bid to bolster her momentum. She is ahead of Mr. Trump nationally by nearly 2 percentage points and leading slightly or tying Mr. Trump in all seven battleground states. Republican Party analysts say polling methodology gives Ms. Harris a phantom advantage because many polls sample a far smaller share of Republicans than exit poll showings from the 2020 presidential election. Washington Times
Harris still hasn't rebuilt Biden's winning coalition . . . Recent Wall Street Journal polling shows the vice president has more work to do to overcome the gains former President Donald Trump has made among Black, Latino and young voters—groups that traditionally back Democrats. Any erosion in the Democratic coalition could decide the election, given that Biden's support was barely strong enough to win in 2020. She has rallied support among Black and Latino voters but continues to trail Biden's 2020 levels Wall Street Journal
Philadelphia Eagles say ads endorsing Harris for president are fake . . . Sorry, Pennsylvania Democrats, but the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles haven't actually thrown their support behind Vice President Kamala Harris. The team denied responsibility Monday for the sudden appearance of bus-stop posters declaring that the Eagles have endorsed Ms. Harris, calling them phony. Washington Times
Harris wears headphones to tune out the press . . . Kamala Harris has been spotted wearing a pair of headphones as she waded through a group of reporters who tried to question her on Monday. Harris - who took more than a month to give an interview with a major media outlet after announcing her run for president - was filmed boarding her flight as she left Joint Base Andrews in Maryland to campaign across the midwest. As she continues to face scrutiny for avoiding more interviews, he decision to wear the headphones has triggered a wave of more hilarious theories. Daily Mail
Press vans following VP nominee Tim Walz crash on Milwaukee interstate . . . Press pool vans following Democratic Vice Presidential nominee Tim Walz were involved in a crash on the interstate in Milwaukee while en route to speak at Laborfest at Summerfest grounds. The motorcade transporting Walz, which also included Representative Gwen Moore, continued safely towards the Summerfest venue. The crash involved three vans carrying press and staff members who were accompanying the vice presidential nominee. "Passengers reported injuries considered to be non-life-threatening," the Secret Service said. WISN Milwaukee

Spending bill showdown threatens shutdown . . . The House Freedom Caucus wants Speaker Mike Johnson to attach legislation to the short-term spending package that would require voters to provide proof of citizenship. Most of the roughly 40 members of the Freedom Caucus said they would vote against a stopgap spending bill if it does not include the citizenship test in the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, known as the SAVE Act, which the House passed this summer with the aid of a handful of House Democrats. Autonomous car bombs, online recruitment: Experts worry how AI can transform terrorism . . . "The reality is that AI can be extremely dangerous if used with malicious intent," Antonia Marie De Meo, director of the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute, wrote in a report looking at how terrorists might use AI. "With a proven track record in the world of cybercrime, it is a powerful tool that could conceivably be employed to further facilitate terrorism and violent extremism conducive to terrorism," she added, citing self-driving car bombs, augmenting cyberattacks or finding easier paths to spread hate speech or incite violence online. China-linked 'Spamouflage' network mimics Americans online to sway US political debate . . . When he first emerged on social media, the user known as Harlan claimed to be a New Yorker and an Army veteran who supported Donald Trump for president. Harlan said he was 29, and his profile picture showed a smiling, handsome young man. A few months later, Harlan . . . claimed to be 31 and from Florida. Harlan's claims were as fictitious as his profile picture, which analysts think was created using artificial intelligence. As voters prepare to cast their ballots this fall, China has been making its own plans, cultivating networks of fake social media users designed to mimic Americans. Associated Press
Migrants make up '75% of arrests in Midtown' as sanctuary city laws handcuff cops . . . Across New York, recently arrived migrants are flooding the criminal-justice system — at far higher rates than public officials have acknowledged. Police sources shared with The Post a staggering estimate that as many as 75% of the people they've been arresting in Midtown Manhattan in recent months for crimes like assault, robbery and domestic violence are migrants. In parts of Queens, the figure is more than 60%, sources there estimate. On any given day, Big Apple criminal court dockets are packed with asylum seekers who have run afoul of the law. New York Post

Alejandro Mayorkas showers DHS with extra vacation; taxpayers pick up tab . . . Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has given so much extra time off to department employees that one of his agencies has had to create an internal system to help employees keep track of it. Employees call Mr. Mayorkas the "patron saint of administrative leave" — or just St. Ali, for short — in recognition of his extravagant promises of extra time off. In 2023, he doled out nine additional vacation days to each employee, and he is on track for 10 this year. Washington Times

Netahnyahu says Biden-Harris weak response sends message to Hamas: Kill more . . . Upon receiving the news that 23-year-old American Israeli hostage Hersh Goldberg-Polin was among the hostages — who were reportedly executed just a short time before their bodies were discovered by Israel Defense Forces (IDF) — Biden and Harris each released statements condemning Hamas. But then Biden lashed out directly at Netanyahu, saying that he did not believe the Israeli Prime Minister was "doing enough" to help secure a deal with Hamas for the release of all remaining hostages. Hamas kills six Israeli hostages and basically, Israel is blamed. It's like an accused murderer saying his victim didn't do enough to get away.
'Shameful' of UK to suspend some arms sales, Netanyahu says . . . "Instead of standing with Israel, a fellow democracy defending itself against barbarism, Britain's misguided decision will only embolden Hamas," he said on social media. His comments come after UK Defence Secretary John Healey insisted the UK remained a "staunch ally", telling the BBC Israel's security would not be weakened by the suspension of around 30 out of 350 export licences. Kamala has - another - new accent . . . Harris spent her Monday holiday in the Motor City hoping to shore up blue-collar union workers in the critical battleground state that she wants to keep blue in the November election. "You better thank a union member for the five-day work week," Harris told the crowd with a noticeable shift in her dialect. "You better thank a union member for sick leave. You better thank a union member for paid leave. You better thank a union member for vacation time." The conservative X account Johnny MAGA shared a clip knocking Harris' "Detroit speak," calling the VP "cringe and fake." Fox News
It's not even clear who she's trying to imitate with this. Is this what union members sound like? Good to know.
