Trump's Jekyll and Hyde Convention Speech

On the menu today: Why did Donald Trump conclude that the country was yearning for him to offer the longest convention speech in U.S. history? If Fidel Castro were alive today, he would have told Trump that it's dragging on a bit long. It's a shame, because Trump began with one of the strongest, most compelling, most moving, and most human starts to a speech. And then he started riffing. Meanwhile, we are probably reaching the apex of "Democrats in disarray," as party insiders start leaking internal polls that look catastrophic for the president and his party. Also, a funny note on the relative ease of rising to the vice presidency compared to winning a term in the Oval Office, and telling certain readers things they don't want to hear.

You might never see another address of a presidential candidate at a national convention start so well. And you will probably never see another go so wildly off the rails, or drag on for what felt like an eternity, the way Donald Trump's convention address did last night.
