Trump trial fuels his first fundraising win over Biden . . . Being a defendant in Manhattan criminal court might be bad news for Donald Trump from a legal perspective. But it has been good for his campaign coffers. On April 15, the start of Trump's New York hush-money trial, the former president's campaign raised more than $361,000 in individual donations—better than most days in recent weeks. That fundraising contributed to more than $76 million in total contributions last month, according to his campaign and new data. His campaign and related committees raised about $25 million more than Biden's last month, new data show. Wall Street Journal

Tim Scott is on the ticket in 2024. Scott leads the field of possible vice presidential contenders, including former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, Republican Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York and former independent Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii, according to a recent Harvard-Harris Poll. Director of Trump biopic smears him as a "fascist" . . . The director of The Apprentice smeared former President Donald Trump as a fascist at the movie's world premiere Monday at the Cannes Film Festival. Immediately after the screening at the festival's main venue, a clearly excited Ali Abbasi addressed the crowd of global cinema elites, who enthusiastically applauded the movie. "When we did this movie, everyone said, why do you want to make a movie about Trump? If you want to tell something about the world, do it in a nice way, in a metaphorical way," the director said, before adding: "There is no nice metaphorical way to deal with the rising wave of fascism." Biden falsely tells college grads cops killing black men in the streets . . . President Joe Biden asked students at historically black Morehouse College in Atlanta what the point of democracy is if cops are killing black men "in the street," but a cursory review of police-involved shootings in 2024 showed Biden's remarks were extremely misleading. "You started college just as George Floyd was murdered and their was a reckoning on race. What is democracy if black men are being killed in the street?" Biden said. Of the 74 black men who died as a result of a police shooting in 2024, only three were identified as being unarmed in The Washington Post's database for tracking fatal police shootings in America. NY Times interviews 2 dozen black Philadelphia voters; just 8 are voting for Biden . . . Only eight out of nearly two dozen black Philadelphia voters interviewed by the New York Times last week plan to vote for President Joe Biden. Voters' gripes about Biden resembled those heard at Trump rallies and echoed by Trump's America First policy platform. The issues cited included "immigration, the cost of living and their sense that Mr. Biden was more focused on crises abroad than on fixing problems in their neighborhoods," per the outlet. Breitbart

Yes, these are "official" condolences, not expressions of grief. But would a Trump State Department have offered them?

Biden says what's happening in Gaza is not genocide . . . President Joe Biden on Monday sought to reassure Jewish voters that he stands firmly with Israel, calling for the full defeat of Hamas and denouncing the International Criminal Court's assertion that Israel's leaders are guilty of war crimes. "What's happening is not genocide. We reject that," Biden said during a speech in the Rose Garden. The president avoided any past criticisms of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's plan to launch a larger-scale invasion of Rafah. "I will always ensure Israel has everything it needs to defend itself against Hamas and all their enemies," said Biden. Politico

SCOTUS won't hear case on school district hiding students' 'gender identity' from parents . . . The Supreme Court declined Monday to consider a case challenging a Maryland school district policy that hides information from parents about their child's "gender identity." Under the Montgomery County Board of Education's guidelines, parents deemed "unsupportive" will not be told if their child is undergoing a "gender transition" at school, according to court filings. The justices declined to hear an appeal by three parents who challenged the plan, leaving in place a lower court ruling that found they did not have standing to challenge the policy. Daily Signal

A secession plan known as the "Greater Idaho Movement" is gaining momentum in Oregon as some residents feel they no longer belong in the liberal-run state and would be better served by their neighbor to the east. A short history of the cockroach . . . The German cockroach — a species found worldwide — actually originated in southeast Asia, likely evolving from the Asian cockroach around 2,100 years ago. The research was published Monday in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. The cockroaches then globe-trotted via two major routes. They traveled west to the Middle East about 1,200 years ago, perhaps hitchhiking in soldiers' breadbaskets. And they may have stowed away on Dutch and British East India Company trade routes to get to Europe about 270 years ago, according to scientists' reconstruction and historical records.
