Dear John: It has been an exciting week, with me testifying on five bills before the Texas State House. The testimony on bill 2744 raising the age for gun possession to 21 years old was quite lively and worth watching. That testimony on that bill lasted about 27 minutes. The attacks by the Democrats show that when gun control advocates have nothing else, they turn to personal attacks. My other testimony on universal background checks, waiting periods, and paperwork requirements for gun dealers was much shorter, generally lasting from 3 to 5 minutes. The Texas State Representative who invited me to testify I also testified in Nevada on their bill to raise the age for gun possession to 21 years old, but in that case, I was only allowed to talk for one minute, and the Republicans who invited me weren’t allowed to ask me any questions. After the Nashville massacre, Congressman Thomas Massie (R-KY) and I had an op-ed in the Washington Times on how to make schools safer. You might remember Rep. Jamaal Bowman, New York Democrat, yelling in the halls of Congress that “Republicans won’t do s—- when it comes to gun violence,” and Thomas tried to educate him about how there have been no shooting attacks where people have been wounded or killed at schools with armed teachers. It was our research that Thomas was referring to. While the news media steadfastly refuses to mention that these mass murderers explicitly pick targets where victims are defenseless, we finally had one victory. I got Fox News to run a news story: “Louisville bank shooting appears to be another instance of tragedy striking in gun-free zone.” The piece extensively quotes me, and we finally got news coverage about gun-free zones’ dangers. With the mass public shootings in Nashville and Louisville, we have done a lot of radio and television shows pointing out how these murderers target gun-free zones. Among the television/podcasts I did were Ann Coulter (worth watching), NewsMax’s Chris Salcedo, NewsMax’s Wake Up America Weekend, and a lively debate on TRT World’s The Newsmakers. Among the radio interviews were Joe Piscopo’s Radio Show in New York City, Stacy on the Right (national), Rich Valdes (national), Bill Martinez (national), Bill Cunningham in Cincinnati, Vicki McKenna across Wisconsin, Armed American Radio (national), the Chuck and Julie Show in Denver, and the Michigan Talk Network. Entertainment Television continues its crusade to demonize guns, with CBS’s “The Company You Keep” calling gun makers the “evil empire” that bribes politicians to get their way and CBS’s S.W.A.T. and Blue Bloods showing criminals constantly using machine guns. However, there was one amazing development. NBC’s takeover of Magnum P.I. has stopped showing criminals using machine guns and actually had one episode where there was a successful defensive gun use. I also spent part of the last two weeks at the NRA, where I manned a booth with the help of Chris Kellett and gave six talks. In one talk, I talked about gun control myths (audio is available here). Another talk dealt with Red Flag laws and gun-free zones (Nikki Goeser joined me via video for one of the talks, and we will post this soon). On a positive note, Nebraska has become the 27th Constitutional Carry state. Bizarrely, Bloomberg’s gun control groups keep blaming me as a “major factor” for mass public shootings. If you haven’t already seen it, I testified before the U.S. House Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security. The hearing’s title was: “Examining Uvalde: The Search for Bipartisan Solutions to Gun Violence.” A video of my testimony is available here.
