This past week, Nikki Goeser testified before the Connecticut Joint Judiciary Committee and Colorado Senate Judiciary Committee on proposed gun control laws. I testified before the Michigan House Judiciary Committee, the Tennessee Senate Judiciary Committee, and the Colorado Senate Judiciary Committee. Here is Nikki's testimony in Connecticut on gun-free zones and safe storage laws and my testimony in Michigan on gun licensing, safe storage, and Red Flag laws. My testimony in Michigan got very lively, with the Democrat committee chair getting into quite a debate with me and refusing to let the Republican minority ask me questions when all the members had questions. I have appeared before many legislative committees over the years, but I have never previously seen the majority (Democrats) being allowed to ask the questions that they wanted and then not allowing the minority (in this case, Republicans) to ask questions. In any case, I think that the Democrat chair was shocked and frustrated by how easily I was able to explain the errors in her claims. This testimony forced me to be on the road from Monday through Friday. An interview with the Michigan Talk Network examined earlier testimony that Nikki Goeser and I gave before the Michigan state Senate. I will soon post copies of our other testimony. Surveys purportedly showing support for gun control are constantly invoked in legislative hearings and the media. But we have important new research showing how surveys compress complicated bills down to one-sentence summaries, and the results are extremely misleading. Congressman Thomas Massie (R-KY) and I have an op-ed at Newsweek making this point on Universal Background Checks and Red Flag Laws. We also have new research showing that the claim that "right-wing extremists" committed 100% of Domestic extremist murders is a lie and that the real threat is from the left. A piece that I had at The Federalist explains the data. Those pushing gun control legislation in Michigan falsely claim it could have stopped the Michigan State University shooting. We discussed this lie on the Bill Martinez national radio show, the Michigan Talk Network, Vicki McKenna's show covering Wisconsin, and Missouri's and Illinois' KZRG. Meanwhile, Nikki has continued to educate people about victims' rights and how stalking victims can defend themselves with appearances on Armed American Radio, Pastor Greg's national radio show, and the Kim Monson Show. Entertainment Television continues its crusade to demonize guns with shows pushing the myth that AR-15s and other "assault" weapons used by criminals are really machine guns, with episodes of CBS's Blue Bloods, NCIS Los Angeles, and S.W.A.T. all making this claim. Entertainment police shows are just a venue for gun control organizations to spew indoctrination. In other news, in California, it can cost over one thousand dollars to get a concealed handgun permit, West Virginia passes campus carry, and concealed handguns were much more common in Europe a hundred and twenty years ago than you might think. We continue our collection of dramatic cases where people legally carrying concealed handguns have stopped crimes, with 20 cases during November 2022. Another case involved a Texas permit holder who stopped a mass public shooting. The national news originally misreported the case as a police officer stopping the attack. Here is our updated list of where permit holders stopped other mass public shootings. If you haven’t seen it already, I testified before the U.S. House Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security. The hearing’s title was: “Examining Uvalde: The Search for Bipartisan Solutions to Gun Violence.” A video of my testimony is available here. It does a good job of briefly summarizing much of our research.
