FBI drastically under reports defensive firearm use.
Dear John: There is more legislative testimony by Nikki Goeser and myself. Nikki and I testified before the Colorado state Senate Judiciary Committee on the proposed expansion of the state's Red Flag law. I also testified on a bill raising the age to buy a gun to 21, making it easier to sue gun makers and sellers. The ranking Republican on the committee called out Nikki's testimony for being extremely strong. I try not to get jealous of being out shown! I also testified before the Tennessee state Senate on allowing students to carry concealed handguns at universities. Nikki Goeser and I had an interview that I thought went really well on WMAL, where we discussed our testimony before state legislatures. I did a similar interview with Armed American Radio with excerpts from three different testimonies. Our previous testimony before the Michigan state Senate received news coverage in the state's two largest papers, the Detroit News and Free Press, and other outlets. The Washington Times had a long front-page story on our research showing how the FBI dramatically underreports the number of active shooting cases stopped by law-abiding citizens legally carrying concealed handguns. Other outlets, such as Red State, also picked up the story. My article at Real Clear Politics points out the irony of Biden advocating that the US adopt California's gun control laws to reduce mass public shootings. California already has all the gun control laws Biden wants, but they have a much higher per capita rate of mass public shootings than the average in the rest of the United States. With Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg threatening to file criminal charges against Trump at the same time he is refusing to prosecute felonies and misdemeanors, using data from Bragg's office, we analyzed how felonies have increased in the Manhattan borough. During Bragg's first year as DA in 2022, felonies soared by 26%. Newsweek extensively used our analysis. I did large national radio shows with Lars Larson, Coast to Coast AM (two hours), and Sebastian Gorka on various issues, including why Biden is pushing for universal background checks and our work on how surveys mislead on the support for gun control. The media bias against guns on entertainment television has really gone to extreme levels. NBC's Magnum P.I. and Chicago PD show more failed defensive gun uses. NBC's Law & Order: Organized Crime makes false claims about ghost guns. Other programs, such as NBC's Chicago PD and CBS's NCIS Los Angeles, continue pushing the myth of criminals using machine guns. For some contrast, here is a segment from a 1963 episode of CBS's The Beverly Hillbillies that shows guns in a very different light. Don't expect to see a segment like that on any TV show anymore. Finally, an episode of CBS's FBI shows a terrifying version of how police are using technology to solve crime. Police can and do lie to get confessions from suspects, and this episode shows how police are using technology to trick people into providing them with the information they want. Also of note, our website has the third highest traffic of 90 Crime blogs and websites, beating out the crime blogs for the New York Post, Los Angeles, Dallas Morning News, and various police departments. We continue our collection of dramatic cases where people legally carrying concealed handguns have stopped crimes, with 20 cases during November 2022. Another case involved a Texas permit holder who stopped a mass public shooting. The national news originally misreported the case as a police officer stopping the attack. Here is our updated list of where permit holders stopped other mass public shootings. If you haven’t seen it already, I testified before the U.S. House Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security. The hearing’s title was: “Examining Uvalde: The Search for Bipartisan Solutions to Gun Violence.” A video of my testimony is available here. It does a good job of briefly summarizing much of our research.
