I’ve Seen This Evil Before, and I Recognize It This Time, Too

Chenyuan Snider

I grew up in China, a totalitarian society where freedom was absent. Without basic human rights and the protection of law, life was unpredictable and complicated. We had to learn to navigate among intricate relationships to avoid various pitfalls and misfortunes. We learned the many practices that would allow us to see through government deception. Most people became good at it. They understood what was really going on.

Now, though, I live in America, the freest country on earth, with a great Constitution protecting the rights of the citizen. I love America. I enjoy and appreciate the freedom it provides.

Having grown up in a tyrannical society, though, I have a different perspective on the danger freedom has brought on Americans, and on Christians in particular. While freedom is desirable and rightly sought-after, it has unfortunately also dulled American Christians’ aptitude and willingness to recognize evil, let alone confront it. For me, this has become the grimmest reality since 2020.

I Knew the Name of the Dragon

Mark Judge

March 1, 2021

On the night of September 14, 2018, I got a call from Ronan Farrow of The New Yorker. My high school friend Brett Kavanaugh had been nominated for the Supreme Court on July 9. Farrow was calling to tell me that Brett and I had been named in a letter claiming “sexual misconduct in the 1980s.”

For the entire summer of 2018 Ford had been working with an opposition researcher named Keith Koegler. According to The Education of Brett Kavanaugh, Koegeler had “spent many hours that summer poring over news coverage of the nomination process, biographical information about Kavanaugh, and writings and videos produced by Mark Judge.”

Their plan was simple: Entangle my life, which has included a struggle with alcoholism when I was younger, with the life of Brett Kavanaugh. It was an oppo research hit whose lynchpin was me crumbling, babbling, and using my life to take my friend down, even if he had nothing to do with my struggles.

There was one thing they weren’t expecting. They didn’t think I would know the dragon’s true name.

Could an Obscure Seattle Law Be Big Tech’s Undoing?

Caitlin Bassett

February 28, 2021

Last week Amazon spiked a book critical of transgender policy. The book — When Harry Became Sally: Responding to the Transgender Movement, by Ryan T. Anderson. Amazon removed it without warning or explanation.

Amazon has breached free speech principles before. In the past two years, they banned productsfilms and ad campaigns for ideas it deems “objectionable.”

Nor is Amazon alone. Facebook, Twitter and Apple are also in the news for similarly questionable moves.

Big Tech’s power to censor seems unstoppable. But maybe it isn’t.

Is Your Church Bookstore Selling Products Made by … Slaves?

Jason Scott Jones

March 1, 2021

Reports from China indicate that slaves who make many of our products are victims of torture, rape, forced abortions and sterilizations, organ harvesting, and summary execution. These include religious products: rosaries, crosses, inspirational plaques with Bible verses. Your refrigerator magnet that says, “The Truth Shall Set You Free”? It might well have made by a man or woman in chains.

As a Christian, I am appalled that so many articles I find in church-run book stores are made in China. The home of hundreds of concentration camps and a 21st-Century genocide should not be getting rich off believers.
