5 Most Underrated Handgun Calibers 💢 CZ 75: Decocker or Safety Version?

As any of us who attended high school know, some people (or things) are more popular than others. Sometimes there is a solid reason, other times the popularity is vexingly not related to reality. This is just as true with calibers as it is with hairstyles or people. Here is my abbreviated list of five very capable handgun calibers that just don’t make the cut with a lot of the shooting crowd.

CZ 75: Decocker or Safety Version?

The CZ Omega offers the option of changing out the levers for a manual safety or decocker. So, what is a decocker? This is a lever that lowers the hammer to the down position without firing the pistol or manually lowering the hammer. Let's look at how the decocker version compares to the safety version.

Weaver Rails vs. Picatinny Rails

So you have a new scope that you want to mount on your rifle. The scope came with a set of rings that are Weaver-style. All you need now is a scope base and you will be set to mount the scope on your favorite firearm. When you start looking for scope bases, you will find two styles that look the same in the pictures, but are not the same. One is called Weaver and the other Picatinny (MIL-STD-1913). These two rails, in many cases, can be used interchangeably.

What Is a Transfer Bar System?

In modern times, new shooters seem to feel that all handguns are safe to handle and safe if dropped, or if an object strikes the hammer. This isn’t always the case. Revolvers are generally perceived as safer than self-loading handguns. This depends on the revolver. While most handguns are safe enough for a handler that respects safety rules, there are millions of older revolvers that are not. Even inexpensive revolvers these days feature a transfer bar ignition system.
