Police responded to an active shooter at a Miami-area Trump golf course Friday morning, exchanging gunfire with the man and arresting him before anyone else was injured, according to authorities.
The man, armed with a handgun, was yelling about President Trump and had draped an American flag over the front desk at the Trump National Doral Golf Club, police said following the incident.
The unidentified man was taken into custody around 1:30a.m. after being shot several times by police.
Miami-Dade Police Director Juan Perez told reporters the man was yelling and "actively shooting" when officers arrived on scene.
"He was yelling and spewing some information about President Trump and that’s what we know so far. And he had an American flag that he did drape over the counter," Perez said.
"You know, these officers did not hesitate one second to engage this individual that was actively shooting in the lobby of the hotel," he said."They risked their lives knowing that that they had to get in there to save lives in that hotel."
None of the responding officers, who were from both the Doral Police Department and the Miami-Dade Police Department, were shot.
Though the golf course, which is roughly 15 miles northwest of downtown Miami, is not a Secret Service protected property, the agency announced they were aware of the incident and were investigating its circumstances.
The FBI is also on scene assisting with the investigation, according to ABC News.
