Pope Francis said the other day that, in a sense, every Christian is called to be a martyr. For a lot of us, that might be the last thing we're ready for. That is why the Church in her wisdom always marks the martyrdoms of Peter and Paul and the early Church martyrs around this time of year. And, in the U.S., it happens to come at a time when the secular calendar also focuses on freedom.
