| Dear Friend, Well, Andy McCarthy should be a national treasure. And today, on what our friend's across the pond call Boxer Day, we'll consider Andrew C. McCarthy the 6th of 10 reasons why NR deserves your support. Why? Because Andy is without question one of the most influential writers on the American right. Especially when it comes to writing about the Islamofascist threat, and all its many facets - who is better than Andy at laying out the cold hard facts? The implications? The consequences? No one, that's who. This week our good friend has taken the time to pen a kindly plea for helping NR. Please read it. It's tough to disagree with this point (indeed, it's usually impossible to disagree with Andy on anything): I've made my contribution, and I'm hoping I can persuade you to do likewise. You see, at no time since the founding of this irreplaceable conservative institution has "standing athwart history yelling 'Stop!'" been more urgent than it is today. Even as we take a break from the everyday, hanging heavily over the Christmas holiday is anticipation of one of the most worrisome years our country has faced since the Civil War. NR needs to be in this fight, as prepared, as vocal, and influential as possible. You can help make that happen when you contribute to our Social Media Outreach Project. We're working mightily to raise $25,000 (to date we've raised about half that amount) to fortify our critical social-media efforts - they'll introduce the wisdom and wit of NR to hundreds of thousands more Americans. No contribution is too small: Your donation of $25, $50, $100 or more will play a big part in helping us. Those of you who come to NR early and often, those of you who know how important National Review is to the cause of freedom, get in the Webathon spirit, and send your favorite conservative website a contribution. I hope you enjoyed a Merry Christmas. And that you have help to take care of the two turtle doves. God bless, Jack Fowler Publisher National Review

A left-wing writer and racial-justice activist who has claimed that American society was "instituted by racist ideas and maintained by racist policies" published a black history book for kids earlier this year that appears to be filled with content plagiarized from other sources, according to a review of the book by National Review . Confronted with the apparent plagiarism, the book’s publisher said it would be pulled from circulation pending an investigation. Rann Miller, a New Jersey-based activist and educator, published Resistance Stories from Black History for Kids in March. According to the book, it is designed to be a "place of entry" into the history of the African people so readers will be "empowered to fight" injustices in the world. Miller, a former teacher who has both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from Rutgers University, also writes opinion pieces for the Philadelphia Inquirer , the Progressive Magazine, and education websites
