thank you very much
0:11
extraordinary tell you what is awesome at this is a race that is a collective
0:18
effort you all are the wind behind us you all were the momentum that brought
0:23
this forward you all represent those who from east to west from north to south or
0:28
why we indeed will be the next governor and lieutenant governor of this
0:32
Commonwealth of Kentucky it is love to hear those bells I wanna I want to start
0:44
by first of all thanking somebody who I could not do this without in its funny I
0:50
hear so often how is it possible that you always seem so rested and you've got
0:54
things together and you have all these children how is it possible that you're
0:58
able to do this and I'll tell you you marry well that's how it's done
1:19
my wife is somebody who does not love a lot of fanfare she's a fairly quiet
1:23
woman she's an extraordinary mother she hates me for doing this to her but I'll
1:28
tell you what this is an extraordinarily strong person somebody who is gracious
1:33
somebody who will make a fantastic first lady for the Commonwealth
1:45
I don't know why she's here and as a captive audience i truly I am grateful
1:54
to you gonna I really thank you and God bless you I also want to thank each of
2:04
my children who have endured an amazingly long slug and the lot of times
2:09
where I was not there for things that I would have liked to have been there for
2:13
as I was traveling the state with so many of the others that were running for
2:17
office
2:17
crossing paths with many of you so much more often than even with my own
2:21
children and i really wanna thank each of them by name
2:25
Carolina grace go to the first names it could be a long time I'm gonna go to
2:39
Madison Olivia
2:49
highs it Lydia Jonah
2:57
there just because it's always fun to I am grateful to you a little while ago I
3:10
had an opportunity to hear from Jack Conway who very graciously reached out
3:14
and conceded this race in it is something I was grateful for we had a
3:18
good conversation about several things not the least of which is that we have
3:22
much work ahead of us and that we are Republicans and Democrats and that we
3:26
are 1 Kentucky at the end of the day and we have much work that must be done I do
3:31
want to tell you before I make a couple of simple comments and we'll keep this
3:34
short and sweet I know that many of you are weary of turning on your TV and
3:40
seeing my evil twin and so I just want you to know I have asked him to move out
3:47
of Kentucky I have asked a guy I don't know who he is exactly but he's been up
3:55
to no good apparently and he's been given me a bad name and he has been
4:00
absolutely inundating your airwaves so I have I'm hoping for all your say that
4:05
you'll be able to watch the football game you'll be able to watch jeopardy
4:09
you'll be able to watch whatever it is you happen to watch without seeing him
4:13
and his shenanigans so we've asked him to move on out of here and I appreciate
4:19
you putting up with him for so many months about the fact that we as a state
4:31
we as a party we as a people and frankly we as a nation in some measure but
4:36
specific to this moment in time in the Commonwealth of Kentucky we need a fresh
4:42
start
4:42
we truly do we need a fresh start and I'm grateful for the fact that this
4:49
trajectory that put me here and I do believe that people find themselves in
4:53
certain places certain moment in time for a reason and I'm grateful for the
4:58
fact that everything that has afforded me this opportunity began because I was
5:03
raised by a man and a woman who raised me with things that were
5:08
maternal value maternal consequence they raised me with an incredible work ethic
5:12
but they also raised me with an appreciation and respect for God for
5:17
them from my country for the rule of law in my mother and father here with me
5:23
right in front
5:24
give a hand on my mother and father have other siblings here as well one of my
5:42
brothers one of my sisters a lot of my nephews are here and I'm grateful to you
5:46
all for being here I truly and I'm grateful for the trajectory that you
5:50
want me on my mother told me earlier she thought she liked it a little better
5:53
when I was the president of the 48 club and not and not the governor of a state
5:59
or the governor-elect in this case but I'll tell you what I'm grateful to you
6:02
mom i'm grateful to you dad thank you so much for everything I appreciate it
6:12
I will simply say this at the risk of bringing us down I do want us to
6:16
remember that the task before us has only just begun its really has only just
6:21
begun in the wall there are people in other rooms just like this and other
6:25
parts of this state that are disappointed tonight who have poured for
6:29
various reasons and in various ways themselves into campaigns and things did
6:34
not turn out as they had hoped for and yet my hat is off to every single
6:38
individual from my immediate opponent Jack Conway Andrew Curtis who I also
6:42
heard from to those that ran in the down ticket races on both sides of the aisle
6:46
to all the men and women who have put themselves forward it is at times a
6:51
thankless task and I'm grateful to those who have done so because it is the very
6:56
thing that makes the fabric of this nation strong when we continue to weave
7:00
ourselves together with disparate ideas different ideologies different
7:04
perspectives
7:06
this is the strength and the beauty of america it truly is and I'm grateful to
7:10
those who have run I'm grateful for the fact that while we have great
7:13
opportunity ahead of us and while it will be a great amount of work that we
7:17
have this kind of enthusiasm this type of encouragement because this is the
7:22
chance for a fresh start it truly is and we desperately needed I'm grateful for
7:27
the fact that we and when I say we I mean all of you have run this race our
7:32
way in by our way what I mean is we have not chosen to climb into the trough we
7:37
have chosen to take the proverbial high road in this is good because I believe
7:42
this offers us an opportunity to change the tenor of what has become expected in
7:49
the world of politics that we have become
7:58
are living proof of the fact that we don't need to follow down that cycle
8:05
that we don't need to settle for the lesser of evils that we don't need to
8:09
settle for the divisiveness that we can celebrate solutions that we can
8:13
celebrate the greatness of our diversity and yet the things that bring us
8:17
together this is what I am grateful for I'm grateful for the fact that you all
8:21
went to the ballot box in those that are watching and those that have
8:25
collectively decided that we want a fresh start that we want to turn the
8:29
page this is your Kentucky this is our opportunity we will seek the future
8:34
together but we will do it as one Kentucky Republican and Democrat alike
8:38
independent those who did not even vote to those of you who did vote I
8:42
personally thank you I thank you on behalf of those men and women who have
8:46
given everything who have given us the ability to go to the ballot box I thank
8:51
you
8:54
for the one and a half million Americans who have given their lives in uniform of
9:03
our nation's military for the men and women who have given their lives in the
9:07
uniform of our police officers and firefighters and other first responders
9:11
these are people who did not have the ability to vote but because of the fact
9:15
that they have gone into places and done things that we did not want to do that
9:19
some of us were not even able to do but they were willing and able to do these
9:22
things they have afforded us the variability to be here tonight
9:26
freely assembled really speaking and having the very privileged of the ballot
9:30
box and so our hat is off to those of you who have given everything into your
9:34
families who are watching tonight
9:44
this is a call out to everyone in Kentucky tonight whether you voted for
9:49
me whether you didn't vote for me whether you voted or didn't vote this is
9:53
your Kentucky this is your america this is our opportunity to come together as
9:57
one we have much work ahead of us live set it off and on the campaign trail but
10:02
Thomas Edison noted that most people in life miss opportunity he said they
10:06
missed opportunity because it usually shows up in overalls and looks like hard
10:10
work and indeed it's true indeed it is true we have much hard work ahead of us
10:16
but we have extraordinary opportunity we are blessed with things in this state
10:20
you could not buy at any price we are blessed with an abundance of resources
10:25
we are blessed with an incredible set of values that the vast majority of
10:30
Kentuckians hold the core christian values that this nation was built on in
10:34
while some will apologize
10:42
there is no reason that we must apologize for the core principles that
10:46
make us an exceptional nation that make us an exceptional state we are
10:50
remarkably like I have driven 95,000 miles around this state in the last two
10:55
years that's a lot of miles i've seen many of you many times and some of you
11:00
have seen for the first time tonight but I'll tell you this we are for all the
11:04
things that separate us we are incredibly alike and I want us tonight
11:09
to go out of here
11:10
inspired to unite I challenge each of you tonight to find somebody as you go
11:15
about your business tomorrow somebody who you know was on the other side of
11:18
this particular battle this particular political equation it reach out to them
11:23
extend your hand literally figuratively whatever the case might be that we are
11:28
only going to be the greatest version of ourselves if in fact we are 1 Kentucky
11:33
it must happen my challenge to you is do not fail to take the high road as we
11:39
have done to this point continue to take the high road because this is the
11:44
opportunity for Kentucky to be a beacon to the nation the values that we hold
11:48
the principles that we hold the work ethic that we hold the high road that we
11:53
will take this will change the tenor of what happens in the 2016 race it's truly
11:57
well because it will be you who represent the fact that kentucky is a
12:02
crown jewel in the crown of America we truly are
12:15
I am grateful to you I am grateful to you then I would be able to express even
12:24
if I were to try I'm humbled by the challenge before us I'm humbled by the
12:29
opportunity before us i'm grateful for the fact that you have been so generous
12:33
with your support to so many others who have run as well from the conservative
12:37
side of the aisle and I'll tell you while I'm a Republican and I've always
12:41
been a Republican and I'm proud for the fact that this is a great night for the
12:44
republican party in the state of Kentucky I'm also I'm also grateful for
12:50
the fact that even more importantly this is a great night for conservatives in
12:54
the state of Kentucky we have a lot of work ahead of us we have a lot of work
13:06
to do its gonna be time to get the overalls on get the boots on get out of
13:10
bed but this is our opportunity to go out and sees it I am grateful to each
13:14
and every one of you for being here enjoy this night but do not forget that
13:19
we are 1 Kentucky black white rural urban at both ends of the socioeconomic
13:25
spectrum we represent an opportunity as a ticket to be something that Kentucky
13:30
has never seen representation of who we are a seat at the table for people from
13:35
every perspective of our state this is going to change the tenor of the state
13:40
just as a changed the tenor of the selection in the way we executed this
13:44
campaign I truly think we as a state have the ability to change the tenor of
13:49
what politics looks like what representation looks like what a seat at
13:53
the table means what it will mean when Kentucky shines like the beacon that it
13:57
will be I'm grateful to you I'm thankful to you god bless you and may God bless
14:02
the Commonwealth of Kentucky
