| Dear Friend, The Human Life Review was founded in 1975 -- in the very offices of National Review -- by the late James P. McFadden. For over 40 years it has been the scholarly force of the pro-life movement: a historic quarterly that has published the likes of Ronald Reagan, Malcolm Muggeridge, Henry Hyde, Jerome Lejeune, Dr. C. Everett Koop, John Cardinal O'Connor, Richard John Neuhaus, Clare Booth Luce, Elizabeth Fox-Genovese, Harold O. J. Brown, Eugene Ionesco, Nat Hentoff, Eric Metaxas, John Finnis, Hadley Arkes, Mary Ann Glendon, Ryan Anderson, Anne Hendershott, Kathryn Jean Lopez, Bill McGurn, and Mary Meehan, a consequential journal that is the backbone of the Right to Life movement. Every year NR joins in celebrating this important institution, and will this year too at the Human Life Foundation's 13th Annual "Great Defender of Life" Dinner, which will be held on Thursday, October 22nd, 2015, at the Union League Club in New York City. Please join in the celebration too by attending this wonderful dinner. This year the Foundation and Review will be honoring Micheal Flaherty and Senator Reverend Rubén Díaz, Sr with its "Great Defender of Life" award. Mr. Flaherty is an educator and the co-founder of Walden Media, a film production company whose releases include The Chronicles of Narnia, The Giver, and Amazing Grace. The family-friendly films Walden has produced present to a society saturated in pro-death messaging the timeless Judeo-Christian values of the sanctity of human life and the virtue of heroic self-giving. Rev. Diaz, President of the New York Hispanic Clergy Organization, has represented the 32nd District (South Bronx) in the New York State Senate since 2002, and has been an outspoken and courageous defender of life, recently leading the fight to defeat the radical Abortion Expansion Law. For more information about the dinner visit here. You can buy tickets here and help the Review by taking out a Dinner Program ad here. Many thanks, Jack Fowler Publisher National Review

A left-wing writer and racial-justice activist who has claimed that American society was "instituted by racist ideas and maintained by racist policies" published a black history book for kids earlier this year that appears to be filled with content plagiarized from other sources, according to a review of the book by National Review . Confronted with the apparent plagiarism, the book’s publisher said it would be pulled from circulation pending an investigation. Rann Miller, a New Jersey-based activist and educator, published Resistance Stories from Black History for Kids in March. According to the book, it is designed to be a "place of entry" into the history of the African people so readers will be "empowered to fight" injustices in the world. Miller, a former teacher who has both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from Rutgers University, also writes opinion pieces for the Philadelphia Inquirer , the Progressive Magazine, and education websites
