| Dear National Review Friend, Coincidental to the launch of the new NationalReview.com website (which we're confident you're enjoying), we're announcing the publication of our new Florence King book -- Withering Slights: The Bent Pin Collection, 2007-2012. If you love NR, no doubt the primary reason is your affinity for superior writing. Over the years, one of our most beloved writers was Florence. Long-time NR magazine fans thrilled to her "Misanthrope's Corner" column that ruled the back page for many a year (those columns were collected and published in the equally beloved book STET, Damnit!). After a brief "retirement," Florence returned to the magazine with an encore triumph -- her "The Bent Pin" column graced NR's pages from 2007-2012. Like its misanthropic predecessor, every Bent Pin essay is timeless and evergreen, as fresh and pugnacious as when first written. And worthy of a complete and unabridged collection, which is exactly what you'll get in this delightful tome. If you thrill to superior prose, then Withering Slights is a must. Available only from National Review -- you can purchase it at the NRO store, here -- this handsome hardcover costs only $24.95 (which includes shipping and handling). If you are a King fan (and if you're not, then what's wrong with you?!) this is a book that demands space in your personal library -- one that should stand next to STET and many of Florence's other classics (for starters, you have got to read Confessions of a Failed Southern Lady). Withering Slights is at the printer, and will be hot off the press (literally) and in the mail to you later this week. So order your copy today, and while you're at it, order a second copy (Florence's books make great gifts for good friends and kinfolk who enjoy writing that is real . . . damned good!). A left-wing writer and racial-justice activist who has claimed that American society was "instituted by racist ideas and maintained by racist policies" published a black history book for kids earlier this year that appears to be filled with content plagiarized from other sources, according to a review of the book by National Review . Confronted with the apparent plagiarism, the book’s publisher said it would be pulled from circulation pending an investigation. Rann Miller, a New Jersey-based activist and educator, published Resistance Stories from Black History for Kids in March. According to the book, it is designed to be a "place of entry" into the history of the African people so readers will be "empowered to fight" injustices in the world. Miller, a former teacher who has both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from Rutgers University, also writes opinion pieces for the Philadelphia Inquirer , the Progressive Magazine, and education websites
