Gibbs: 'I hope they fire some people' over ObamaCare rollout

Former White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Monday that people should be fired over the botched rollout of ObamaCare's new insurance exchanges.

"I hope they're working day and night to get this done. And when they get it fixed, I hope they fire some people that were in charge of making sure that this thing was supposed to work," Gibbs said on MSNBC.

"We knew there were going to be some glitches, but these are glitches that go way beyond the pale of what should be expected."

Gibbs, formerly one of Obama's top advisers, said the problems with healthcare.gov are embarrassing but not "fatal" because there is still time to fix the site before the window to purchase insurance closes.

"This is excruciatingly embarrassing for the White House and the Department of Health and Human Services," Gibbs said. "This was bungled badly. This was not a server problem, like just too many people came to the website. This is an architecture problem."

The Obama administration initially blamed healthcare.gov's problems an unexpected surge of traffic, but officials have since begun to acknowledged that the site also suffers from deeper, more structural flaws.

Healthcare.gov is the primary portal to enroll in coverage in 36 states. Nearly two weeks after its launch, the site still blocks some users from creating accounts, which prevents them from even comparing their options for insurance.

Two congressional Republicans — Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) and Rep. John Fleming (R-La.) — have said HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius should resign over the site's problems.
