Gun control law forces firearm-maker to leave New York

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) — A firearms manufacturer said Wednesday it is moving its corporate offices out of New York, partly because of the state's stricter new gun control law.

Kahr Firearms Group is the first gunmaker in New York to blame the law for its departure. A spokesman said the company felt uncertain about its future after the law passed in January.

Kahr will move its 10-person corporate staff to Pike County, Pennsylvania next year. The company also expects to build a new factory there — with 80-100 jobs — within five years.

The company said it was close to finalizing a deal for land in Orange County, N.Y., before the law was passed.

A call to Gov. Andrew Cuomo's office was not immediately returned.
