Florida Legislature Rejects Special Session to Repeal “Stand Your Ground”

Florida Legislature Rejects Special Session to Repeal "Stand Your Ground"

Inevitable after the Florida Sheriffs, of all ideology and party affiliation, voted overwhelmingly (and unanimous amongst all attendees) to reaffirm their support for the self-defense law.

The Department of State on Wednesday released a list that showed more than half of the state's 160-member Legislature has already voted against the idea.

The vote was triggered earlier after 33 legislators asked for a special session in writing. They were urged to do so by protesters upset with the July verdict in the George Zimmerman case.

Three-fifths of state legislators would have had to vote in favor of a special session.
