The news of the resignation of Central Intelligence Agency Director David Petraeus began to break just as guest host Mark Simone took the Hannity microphone. Petraeus told President Barack Obama of the affair yesterday and offered to resign. Obama accepted his resignation in a phone call Friday afternoon. Bernard, from the Imus in the morning radio show, stopped in and confirmed to Simone that the resignation was indeed official. "You're the Director of the CIA and you don't know how to keep this quiet?" Simone quipped. "You would think you'd need to find another line of work if you weren't able to cover this up," Bernard joked. "A simple affair, as wrong as that is, is that a reason to resign from the CIA?" Simone asked. Bernard speculated that perhaps the unfolding controversy surrounding the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Libya might have had something to do with it. "This is shocking though, that Petraeus, who many believe is a s traight arrow and a hero, should do such a thing," Simone added. Read Petraeus' resignation letter here. Rep. Peter King, Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee Peter King joined Mark Simone and discussed the breaking news about Petraeus' resignation. "I'm sort of in shock," King explained. "I can tell you as far as I know, and I'm on the intelligence committee, there was not a hint of this. Even back in 2008 I urged Petraeus to run for president. I know him, we've gone to dinner and have worked with him. He's a true patriot and will go down as one of our outstanding military leaders. What he did in Iraq, as far as turning the war around, was phenomenal. As far as him as the CIA Director, I've had some differences with him, especially on Benghazi, but having said that, he was absolutely committed to the job. I really feel badly about this, but I can see why though, if you're the head of the CIA that you can't be in a position like this because you could potentially become subject to blackmail," King concluded. |

| Sean's Message To The GOP The presidential election was not the only race lost by Republicans on Tuesday. There were also a number of disappointing outcomes in Senate contests as well. In particular, opportunities were missed by conservatives in both Missouri and Indiana, two states that Mitt Romney easily carried. It was a series of inexcusable missteps, especially Missouri, made by the Republican candidate in the race that allowed a Democrat to win. Of course, those infamous comments that he made about, "legitimate rape" that kicked open the door for this incumbent to pull out a victory. Although both candidates ultimately apologized for their comments, it was simply too late. The damage had already been done. Everyone makes mistakes, but in the days leading up to the most important Election Day in the history, thesis missteps, in my view are simply inexcusable. I have a message for the GOP and it's pretty simple. That is, it's time to start nominating disciplined, principled, conserva tives; men and women will who will defeat their opponents, not themselves. Because at the end of the day, if you cannot answer a simple question on issues like abortion, what in the world are you doing running for office? Come 2014, the Republicans will need to usher out their A-team -- and that is people who ready for prime time. If they don't, you can say goodbye to the House and the Senate will remain under the control of Harry Reid. It's time to look in the mirror. To watch all of Sean's comments, please click here. Today's "Hot Topic" From The Hannity Forums: Will Obama Let Sequestration Happen? - IndyBec If he does and then people feel its pain, he might find a way to blame it on the Republicans to avoid getting blame himself. Is his consideration of a new carbon tax a way to get the GOP dig their heels in and cause sequestration cuts to take effect? The real question in all of this is, what are the viable alternatives to sequestration? >> TV Tonight (Hannity FoxNews at 9pm ET): House to hold hearing on Benghazi Consulate attack.
