Could Texas Legally Secede From The U.S.?
A petition for Texas to secede from the union, submitted to the White House, has reached the number of signatures needed to draw comment from the Obama administration. The petition appeared on a section of the White House website called "We the People" that invites users with a U.S. zip code to submit or sign petitions about policy changes they would like to see. A petition must reach 25,000 signatures within 30 days for the administration to comment on it. Sean invited Francisco Hernandez, an Immigration Attorney from Texas who felt the Texas secession efforts are ridiculous. "The previous two secessions have not worked and the third attempt will not even be entertained," Hernandez told Sean. Bob Smiley, who wrote a book on a possible secession back in August, also joined the discussion. "The ability of the state of Texas to successfully support itself is more than possible and it could be a totally plausible possibility," said Smiley argui ng against Hernandez's position. Smiley explained that Texas has the natural resources, a great economy, its own power grid and also has a good defense presence with the Texas State Guard. Susan Rice Promotion?
Senior Republican senators vowed yesterday to block any future promotion of Susan Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, over her handling of the September 11 attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi, Libya. Sean invited Michelle Malkin of Twitchy.com and Ryan Grim, Washington Bureau Chief for the Huffington Post to the program to discuss the issue. Malkin discussed Rice's history and explained we should not favor her for a position in the president's cabinet, especially after her inability to take responsibility to the attacks in Benghazi. Grim felt that we should look at larger issues like the wrongful killings by American drone strikes or the U.S. overstepping its bounds overseas. The Outpost: An Untold Story of American Valor
At 6:00 a.m. on the morning of October 3, 2009, Combat Outpost Keating was viciously attacked by Taliban insurgents. The 53 U.S. troops, having been stationed at the bottom of three steep mountains, were severely out-manned by nearly 400 Taliban fighters. Though the Americans ultimately prevailed, their casualties made it one of the war's deadliest battles for U.S. forces. And after more than three years in that dangerous and vulnerable valley a mere 14 miles from the Pakistan border, the U.S. abandoned and bombed the camp. A Pentagon investigation later concluded that there was no reason for Outpost Keating to have been there in the first place. That is the story behind "The Outpost" a new book written by ABC News White House correspondent Jake Tapper. "Forty-five survived. The testament and one of the reasons I wrote this book is because the heroism of those who survived -- and the eight who died -- was just remarkable. They ran out into this hailstorm of bullets and rockets and mortars to save their brothers, to provide ammunition. And it's just -- it's a sad story, but it's also a very inspiring one. Because this is who we have serving us in the armed services," Tapper told Sean on 'Hannity'. For more information or to buy Jake Tapper's new book please click here.
