WHAT YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED * House Speaker John Boehner opened the door Wednesday to a potential compromise with Democrats, saying Republicans are "willing to accept new revenue" to rein in the nation's debt and avoid a messy standoff over the "fiscal cliff." * Maine Sen.-elect Angus King (I) still won't say which party he will caucus with in the Senate, but maintains his decision to remain on the fence is not a "stunt." King said in an interview that he has two criteria for choosing: "The extent I can maintain my independence" and "how effective I can be on behalf of Maine." King added that he hopes he can be "a bit of a bridge" between the two parties in the Senate. * Former congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick (D) will return to Congress following a Wednesday victory over Republican Jonathan Paton in Arizona's 1st District. The Associated Press has called the race for the Democrat, who led Paton 49 percent to 45 percent with 99 percent of precincts reporting. * In the wake of the president's reelection, Vice President Biden hopes "there's going to be some real soul-searching about, [in the] Republican Party, about what they're willing to cooperate on," he told reporters Wednesday. WHAT YOU SHOULDN'T MISS * Will Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Chair Patty Murray (Wash.) stay on another cycle with the committee following a very successful 2012? She's not saying. "I don't know who will chair the DSCC in the next cycle," she told reporters. * There are many Democrats who would be pleased to see Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) run for governor, an office he once held. But Sen.-elect Tim Kaine (D-Va.) wants him to stay in the upper chamber. "I really want Mark to stay," Kaine said in his post-election news conference. "What Mark is doing with the Gang of 6 is important and is not just fiscal." * Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid vowed Wednesday to "dance" with his Republican counterparts in cooperation, but said he would "fight" them with rules changes if they tried to obstruct Obama's second term. * Former New York Democratic congressman Anthony Weiner is back on Twitter 18 months after lewd pictures he posted via the social networking tool ended his tenure in Congress.
