Dear Diogenes: Andrew Pollack, who lost his daughter in the Parkland school shooting and has been a tireless advocate for school safety, served as the president of the Crime Prevention Research Center while I worked in the Trump administration in 2020 and the beginning of 2021. But because of his willingness to speak out publicly, Andrew Pollack and his son, Hunter, have faced relentless harassment and threats. I have a piece at Real Clear Politics highlighting the shocking ongoing challenges they face as public figures who have already endured unimaginable loss. I have also updated our deep dive into the cases where civilians stopped active shooters with more information on the characteristics of the civilians. My recent op-ed on the need to fix the FBI's distortions of crime data continues to generate radio and television interviews. Radio interviews included D.C.'s WMAL Vince Coglianese show (this turned out well), Houston's giant KTRH, Cleveland's Bob Frantz's show, Kansas' KSAL, and San Diego's KCBQ. Lars Larson's national radio show talked to me about Trump's Executive Order to protect the Second Amendment. I discussed crime by illegal aliens on Wisconsin's Vicki McKenna show and Southern Florida's Trey Radel show. Wyoming just passed a law eliminating gun-free zones in the state. I worked to educate people about the dangers of gun-free zones. Besides writing an op-ed in Wyoming's largest newspaper with state Senator Cheri Steinmetz, who managed the bill through the state Senate, I briefly testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee, and I had a letter to the editor in the Cowboy State Daily responding to attacks on his op-ed with Steinmetz. My name was referenced at least a dozen times by people testifying both for and against the bill. My testimony received prominent news coveragein the state. Others such as the former Director of the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation and a retired law enforcement officer wrote letters referencing my research. A copy the new law is available here. We have continued collecting television show discussion on guns. CBS's Tracker has yet another defensive gun use that went wrong. A woman unsuccessfully used a gun to stop a man who he had broken into her home. Another CBS show, FBI International, has criminals in Europe using machine guns to rescue a criminal. On the positive side, Paramount+'s Landman has the lead character saying "Better to have a gun and not have to use it." Taylor Sheridan's shows are unusual in sometimes showing the benefits of guns. I have moved to Salt Lake City. Our new address is Crime Prevention Research Center, 358 S 700 E, Ste B, B409, Salt Lake City, UT 84102. We have updated our list of defensive gun uses by people legally carrying concealed handguns for December 2024. If you haven't already seen it, please watch our new video with John Stossel, which covers our new research showing errors in the FBI's active shooting reports. We need help getting our research out. It doesn't do us any good to do all this work if people don't see it. If you have friends you think might find our emails interesting, please encourage them to sign up by sending them the link here. Thank you very much. We need your support to continue doing the work that we do. Our end of the year donations are I don't think that there is any organization with as small of a budget that regularly produces as much as we do. Thank you very much. . Research . Op-eds .
